The House

The property beautifully integrates its Jesuit heritage with contemporary style, creating a space that feels timeless and welcoming at the same time. Every corner preserves historic elements, from the original Baroque chapel to the arched ceilings and intricate 18th-century Portuguese tiles. These details invite you to step back in time and immerse yourself in the rich history that defines this extraordinary home.

Azulejos tiles in the living room

The back wall of the drawing room is adorned with a stunning 18th-century tile panel, crafted by the esteemed Portuguese azulejos master, Policarpo de Oliveira Bernardes (1695 - 1778). This exquisite panel depicts the Annunciation to the Blessed Virgin Mary by the archangel Gabriel on the right side, while on the left, it showcases a depiction of Jesus praying in the Temple.

Azulejos hold a significant place in Portuguese history and cultural heritage. These meticulously handcrafted tiles have made a lasting impact over the centuries, becoming synonymous with Portugal. Their intricate designs and decorative motifs infuse every space they occupy with a sense of vibrancy and beauty.

In contrast to the historic azulejos, the house also showcases the contemporary artwork of Annabelle Moreau. Her large steel panels and performative photographs add a modern and artistic touch to the rooms, creating a captivating fusion of past and present aesthetics.

The Kitchen

In addition to the beautiful old building, Tomas Ramos and his ARC Architects team designed a modern extension to the house, made of steel and glass.

The kitchen becomes an integrated part of the exterior allowing light and reflections to create a connection from the old monastery and its prolongation into nature.

Events & Weddings

The house offers beautiful spaces for intimate weddings and events, including the olive orchard, poolside garden with sunset views and a spacious garden for dining and dancing. In the cooler months, the cosy barn with fireplace provides a warm and inviting atmosphere.

We work with experienced event planners and caterers who are familiar with the estate to ensure every detail is considered. Events are best held for up to 80 guests, maintaining the charm and intimacy of the venue.
